The United States did not act on the sabotage of the American gunboat but only because the Japanese made the necessary apologies to the United States of America, but it brought tension which was no surprise the United States intercepted codes that the Japanese were going to surprise attack the United States somewhere.

Pearl Harbor - Pearl Harbor was the direct cause which caused the United States to go to war with the country of Japan. The Japanese did a surprise attack on the United States Naval base located in Hawaii. The attack took place in the early morning of December the 7th in 1941.

For the United States they wanted to remain out of the war by isolationism. As the war raged on, the United States slowly started to help out the British with weapons and trading military boats for outposts in South America. This so called supporting of the British military further angered Hitler and the Nazis.

Act of Appeasement - The Act of Appeasement that took place in World War II, was shortly after World War I, when the British and other European nations slowly condoned some of Germany's expansions. They condoned most of this because it was shortly after the First World War and many people did not want to experience the harsh realities of war so soon. But since the countries of Europe allowed the Germans to slowly grow they became more powerful which gave them the ability to start conquering countries such as Poland.
